Ben's Quiver
Got to have the right tools for the right job.

You know the other day, I said to Liz as I was pouring over an issue of the latest surf mag, "You know, I really like surfboards. I could look at them all day. I mean check out the curves on this one. And the triple stringer on this baby. That's so sweet. " Then it hit me, Liz, I'm going to need a shop.

Meet Big Red, the new, vintage board addition until Ernie comes over for a paddle.

6'10"" Scott Rowley
11 1/4 x 19 1/2 x 14
2 7/16 inches thick
3 fins(Future Fin System)

After riding the 7'2" regularly the last year with some confidence I finally decided it was time to buck up and meet my goal of riding a 6'10". Plus, I was tired of getting pounding paddling out; couldn't duck dive it deep enough.I rode one of Scott's boards in a similar dimension; my buddy was lucky to get his board back. It rode real nice.

7'2" HSO, Brian Szymanski
15.5 x 21.5 x 14.5
2.75 inches thick
3 fins(LokBox Fin System)

Spent some time on a friend's 7'2" PearsonArrow and I really liked it. Too bad he sold it without telling me. Doh! Aaron! And the 5'10" Fish was too skatey for me so I sold it and found this jem at Fat Kat Surf Shop north of Mill City, Ca., while Liz and I were attending our seventh wedding of the year. So I've spent the past month surfing the HSO solemente. Nice ride.

5'10" Marcio Youri
15.25 x 19.9 x 14.6
2.25 inches thick
2 big fins + 1 small center fin(FCS)

Ok, so I found a deal I couldn't pass up while I was down south coming back from Baja. I was looking to move down, but to a 5'10" fish? What the hell was I thinking? That's 4 feet less than I'm used to.

The story of the board goes like this: a guy orders a custom fish from old Marcio and apparently they had a little ill-communication about the color. The dude threw fit when he came to pick it up and it wasn't yellow.

9'9" Ricky Young
18-22.5-15
3/8" Cedar Stringer
Single Fin--9" Wingnut Cutaway
Artwork by Liz Johanson.

9" longer than my other boards. Softer rails all the way around and thicker. A wave hog. Best with on not-so-steep waves, 1-5 feet. A delight to paddle. Plenty of board to walk.

9'  TDK, Diamond Glassing
17-22.5-14
1/4" Balsa Stringer
2 OFishls + 1 7" Wingnut Cutaway

A very light weight, high performance board. Has hard rails in the tail, turns darn near on a dime and a concave nose. The concave seems a little severe as it feels like it's pushing a water when paddling into a wave. Fast down the line and very quick to turn. Liz actually got her first stand-up ride on the TDK.

9' Dev Gregory
18.6 X 23 X 14.2
3.11" thick
3/8" stringer
2 OFishls + 1 7" Rainbow Cutaway

My first board. Picked it up at a longboard contest in CA for $150. And I still love it. Though she's not much to look at, she still goes. The pintail holds real nice on steep beach breaks. Turns quickly and paddles fine. A great ding repair pratice board too.

Just sold the Dev. Had to make some room. Maybe I should just build shop! hmmm, Hey Liz?
